Structure:

something built as a dwelling, shelter, or place for human activity

Hurricane Katrina's aftermath was a pivotal moment for my family and career, as it was for countless others.  The natural disaster, followed by the BP oil spill, only deepened my resolve to learn more about the impact of natural disasters and coastal erosion.  Immersing myself in local non-profit organizations and artists' communities that understood the need for awareness and active engagement helped build a platform for my work.  Land loss due to corporate ignorance and greed, coupled with natural disasters, and living with the consequences of decisions made by men and women who chose to remain separate from the communities most impacted by their flawed thinking, was the impetus for my Tiny Pink Houses.  These houses on their own symbolize home and the possibility of legacy, belonging, pride, and growth.  They  strike a chord between the perceived permanence of a house regardless of its locale and the vulnerable wetlands and fragile coastal region upon which they were built.
